I want to go to Churchill Downs Kentucky?
Hey! So my family and I are going to drive up to indianapolis this thursday and i want to stop in louisville kentucky on our way there to see churchill downs. do we have to pay anything if there isn’t a race going on? is it possible to just walk around and go to the museum and gift shop and stuff? thanks for your help!!!
The museum costs $12 for adults, $8 for 13-18, and $5 for kids 5-13 and free for kids under 5. It’s open from 8-5 except Sundays (11-5).
You can walk around the paddock and seating area for free and you can see morning workouts if you’re there early enough. You can also go inside the gift shop… there’s 2 gift shops at Churchill… one in the museum and one in the track area… I’m not sure that the one in the track area will be open when there’s not live racing at the track.
Along with the museum tickets, you get a tour around the paddock and track area.
In addition, there are several $10 tours that you can take around Churchill Downs. You can’t walk around the backstretch by yourself, but they do have a guided tour around the backside. Also, they have a tour through the jocks room and up inside the grandstands to see the fancy rooms where the rich people gather during the Derby. They also have a new tour that’s sort of a haunted-Churchill tour late at night.
