Why aren’t my questions about yesterdays Kentucky Derby appearing in the Horse Racing Category thread?

I asked two legitimate questions regarding yesterdays Kentucky Derby, and although they appear as open in my history they are not appearing on the thread in the category even as several other users ask questions to the thread:

Why does this happen? … I’m so sick and tired of wasting points on Yahoo! Answers because legitimate questions are not appearing on the category thread, what’s going on?

There is a prefilter the question has to pass. If you have links or references to certain websites or certain keywords, the questions will be held for staff review, usually 30 minutes to a couple of days. If there is a problem, you may get a violation or they may just not post the question. If the question is showing in your profile, this would be the reason.

If not in your profile, they could have been quickly deleted. Note that both of these questions are right on the line of violations because of your format. Note the first can simply be answered “no” and the second can be answered simply “no”. That is always a big red flag for chat. Format them so FACTS are required.

Try this. Edit the question and add just a couple of periods in the added details and resubmit. This sometimes clears the question. Or post with no links and add them in the added details.

Was Todd Pletcher’s tirade justifiable after Dunkirk lost the Florida Derby?

Blaming the track for being sped up with track records being broken?

Tough to say – no doubt the move Dunkirk made sweeping by almost the whole field was impressive and often such moves in a thoroughbred mark big things to come later, but Dunkirk no doubt looked much more tired than Quality Road coming back after the wire.

Any thoughts on the race?

I hate when trainers make excuses like that after a race. Can’t you just be gracious and say that the other horse was better today? You can say that the track sped up and that the conditions didn’t play to our horse’s running style, but you don’t have to act like a jerk and say the surface had been very nice and safe and that the track sped it up just to get the track records. Pletcher doesn’t know that was really the case… someone from the track later said that they had rain for the first time in months and he thinks that’s why the track was faster. I don’t know for sure how the track sped up, but I’m not making a public statement on national tv. Todd was absolutely justified in saying that he didn’t think the track played well to his horse, but he was not justified to say it the way he did.

I didn’t think a whole lot of Dunkirk before the race. People were touting him as the second coming of Secretariat… they had a feature about Dunkirk during the Lanes End coverage… the horse wasn’t even racing that day, and ESPN was talking about him. He’s been showing up on Derby lists for months and I couldn’t figure out who the horse was. Last week I looked at the past performances and saw that he’d run a maiden and allowance and I realized why I didn’t know who the horse was… because he hadn’t run against anyone. I was not aboard the Dunkirk bandwagon. I’m not surprised that Dunkirk lost to Quality Road who has more experience against better horses. I think Dunkirk ran a good race and finishing 2nd in a GI in his 3rd start is fantastic. But facing Quality Road was tough and I would have been shocked if Dunkirk had won. At this stage in both horse’s careers, Quality Road is the better horse and would have won regardless of the track surface.

I think that Pletcher’s decision to go maiden, allowance, GI, Derby was a little stupid. He’s been in the game long enough to know that a horse needs earnings to get into the Derby and if he really wanted to go from the Florida Derby to the Kentucky Derby, then he should have ran in a GIII instead of the allowance if he had the type of horse he thought could get to Kentucky. That way if the horse happened to run 2nd in the Florida Derby, he could still have enough earnings to go to Kentucky. In my opinion, Pletcher knows better and shouldn’t be throwing a temper tantrum after the race because his horse didn’t pick up enough cash.

As a side note, Todd said he would have gone to Aqueduct if he knew the track at Gulfstream was going to get fast… That means he would have raced in the Wood Memorial… and if he had chosen to do that, then instead of getting beat by Quality Road, Dunkirk would have gotten beat by I Want Revenge.
