How much tax would I have to pay?
As a professional gambler who bets on horse races in Queensland, Australia, what percentage of my winnings annually do I need to pay in tax?
Thanks for any help
If you are a professional gambler, you would have a business of gambling. So any winnings would be included with your income when you complete your annual Income Tax Return. The percentage would depend on which marginal rate of tax applies to your level of total taxable income. This can range from 0% for under $6000 in taxable to income to 45% for income over $180,000 of taxable income. You may also be liable for Medicare Levy of 1.5% and Medicare Surcharge of 1%.
The ATO website has a online Income Tax calculator for you to estimate the tax payable.

Have you heard of the famous horse races in Saratoga Springs, New York?
I’m just wondering how many people have heard of them, because I live there. Are they really all that famous? In magazines and stuff I see ads for Saratoga Springs, how historical it is, and how much it has to offer, but to me, it’s just a boring little city.
Ive heard of it.

What is an appropriate gift to give to a Gulf Arab Business man from Dubai that I am doing business with?
What is an appropriate gift to give to a Gulf Arab Business man from Dubai, UAE, that we are doing business with? I am a bit stumped. I have one week. And the company I work with has assigned me the task to find a great gift to give to the business man from Dubai that we are going to do business with. Obviously, I don’t want to seem like we are rude to him or his company in any way or make any cultural offense. The person we are meeting is rich, busy, and very influential in the fields of printing, plastics and media. He is also Muslim. And loves great racing horses. I am totally stumped, people and really could use the advice. I would love to hear from Muslims out there who could give me an idea what to get.
I live in California and we are being flown to Dubai UAE this coming week. Thank you.
Buy a high quality book (book of pictures) about the USA or California.
You may get the book “Don’t they know it’s Friday” written by Jeremy Williams. This book is written for the use of Westerners going to do business with Arabs in the Middle East.

How much influence does a jockey have on a horse’s success?
Is the jockey just there to steer the horse towards the finish or does he play a much more active role in determining whether a horse wins a race or not?
I presume the jockey plays a crucial role in determining exactly when a horse should kick hard for the finish. If it goes too early it might slow down because it hasn’t got any other horse in sight pushing it along.
Do good jockeys balance themselves better so that they complement the movement of the horse better? Presumably you only need to be a little bit out of sinc with the horse for it to disturb the stride and fluency of the horse.
Also, I presume good jockeys steer a sensible course so that they balance the need to minimise the distance a horse travels against the danger of getting boxed in on the inside rail.
Are these genuine factors or do they make little or no difference in practice. Are there any other factors affected by jockeys.
90 % of my decision on which horse to bet on is based on WHO is riding it. I look at how much the jockey has made rather than how much the horse has made. It is only the EXPERIENCED and GOOD jockey that can bring a horse up to winner circle. They have the winning attitude and want to win. The others just ride.
