How to create database for horse racing results?
I presently use excel but one sheet.So a horse ,course,distance etc is repeated many times on their columns.
I have tried access.Should I use a table for each race? and if so how do I form a realtion between same horse?
A simple solution would have 4 tables:
horse (horse_ID (PK), name, …)
racetrack (track_ID (PK), name, …)
race (race_ID (PK), track_ID (FK), date, post_time, length, …) (note that race_ID not strictly necessary,just easier to work with – the real key is track_ID + date + post_time)
race_horse ((race_ID (FK), horse_ID (FK))(PK), post_odds, start_lane, end_position, finish_time, …)
table race_horse provides the relation between race and horse
