AP female athlete of the year?
Personally I can’t believe that Serena WIlliams beat out Zenyatta as the AP 2009 female athlete of the year. Of course, we do have to consider the source (i.e. the AP). I’m quite sure that Serena has metabolized more steroids than has Zenyatta. . . What do you racing fans think about this coup?
Zenyatta beat the boys, Serena did not. Zenyatta acted like a lady, Serena did not.

mike smith on zenyatta, or Calvin borel on Rachel Alexandra?
mike smith on zenyatta vs. Calvin borel on Rachel Alexandra in the breeds cup ladies classic? who would win? (this race is not planed to happen just a what do you think question?
Well Rachel Alexandra For 3 reasons
1) She will be on the front end leaving Zenyatta to chase her down
2) She will also be spotted 4 or 5 pounds b/c she is 3 and Zenyatta is 5
3) the race is only 1 1/8 mile so the stretch wouldn’t be that long giving zenyatta and tough task running down Rachel in a short stretch
BTW Rachel Has run on synthetics at 2 and won so it wouldn’t be that new to her

when you can’t hang out with your horse, what do you do instead?
Curious what other people do when its icky and rainy and you cannot go out and play with your horse. What do you do to get your horsie fix?
I watch a helmet view of Zenyatta working – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hv49V2RzgHw
and look at some weird horse news..
http://cs.thehorse.com/blogs/horse-news-weird/default.aspx
I’m usually always on here, playing games, and working on my schoolwork. I usually always go down to at least groom him, and if it’s not windy I ride him indoors. On days that we don’t go down at all I usually take that day to do my laundry and clean up my room if I can. Sometimes I go somewhere but I usually can’t.

Race Opinions/Thoughts? – Zenyatta will attempt to run her perfect record to 13 in the Lady’s Secret S. (G1)?

5 Zenyatta Smith M E 123 L
6 Lethal Heat Solis A 123 L
7 Briecat Garcia M 123 L
8 Anabaa’s Creation (IRE) Bejarano R 123 L
Um Zenyatta… duh.
Mike isn’t going to be stupid enough to let Anabaa’s Creation stroll through opening fractions and almost beat him at the wire… he’ll have Zenyatta rolling earlier than last time so he’ll take the lead by the sixteenth pole.
As for the other fillies… this is the same bunch that Zenyatta has beaten before… she’ll do it again. Cocoa Beach isn’t quite the horse she was last year when beating Ginger Punch and coming second to Zenyatta in the Ladies Classic. Life is Sweet is a very talented filly and she’d probably win the race if Zenyatta wasn’t there… unfortunately, she’ll settle for 2nd or 3rd again. Lethal Heat is another one who is a very good filly, even running against colts last time, but not as good as Zenyatta.
Briecat and Anabaa’s Creation will set the pace… I expect them to be strolling through 24 second quarters… that’s the only way they’d have any chance to win the race is by saving all their run for the stretch. Lethal Heat and Cocoa Beach will stalk the pace a length or two back. Life is Sweet will be far back, then try to get the jump on Zenyatta. But as always, Zenyatta will break into her long stride with her ears pricked and gallop past the others around the turn for home to tie Personal Ensign’s record for a perfect 13 for 13.
If only I could be home to watch the race tomorrow

Who thinks when Zenyatta is retired she should be bred to Curlin??Do you think the foal would be successful?
I would love to see if they had a foal and it would be great.I love Zenyatta she is the my favorite racehorse so far.(since 1994)I think its because she is a filly.=)
Hi,
theoretically, I would love to see her bred to Curlin. But many things have to be taken into consideration when breeding. Tests need to be conducted to make susre that the two horses are a match and hopefully the foal will be normal and sound. Things such as genetics need to be taken into consideration.
There is just no way to be sure if a foal will walk in the footsteps of it’s parents. Take Secretariat for instance. He had a lot of foals, and some were fairly successful, but he never produced anything like himself.
On the other hand, Seattle Slew was very successful as a sire and produced many stakes winning progeny.
So really, it is a crap shoot to say the least. But we can always dream of what might be. So we will just have to play the waiting game and see what happens.

Zenyatta and the Breeders Cup Ladies Classic?
Zenyatta is undefeated and visually impressive. Do you think she is a more vulnerable favorite against the company she faces in the Breeders Cup Classic? I thought a few of her rivals looked like they could surprise in this one, but I watch Zenyatta again, and everything looks so easy for her.
2008 Breeders Cup Ladies Classic contenders, past performances and replays: http://horseracingfans.net/event/view/id_60/
This is a good field of challengers to test Zenyatta’s superiority.
Awesome performances have left many fillies in the wake. Speed will be wicked. Zenyatta is the “perfect storm”. Tactical speed of a filly that rates and closes is leathal. Look for a record performance. Hysterical Lady and Cocoa Beach are duelers. Ginger Punch is an honest Champion.

Will Zenyatta a/or Rachel Alexandra be bred to Curlin when they retire as broodmares?
Or even if they become broodmares? I know we can’t always expect the offspring to be just like its sire and dam but i still would like to see what the colt/filly would be like
I would have some real reservations about breeding Zenyatta to Curlin.
Breeding horses is not just an exercise in matching pedigrees. You have to consider the physical characteristics of the horses involved. And the first physical characteristic of Zenyatta that strikes you when you see her is her SIZE. She’s just huge, 17 hands and maybe a bit more.
The larger a Thoroughbred is, once you get past about 16 hands, the more difficult it becomes to keep it sound. For this reason, if I were selecting a mate for Zenyatta, I wouldn’t want to mate her to any stallion more than 16 hands in height. According to his page on the Lane’s End website, Curlin is 16.2. If you look at pictures of him, he’s built like a bull: he’s a big-boned horse, quite substantial.
I don’t think this is the kind of mate for Zenyatta, from a physical standpoint, that would produce a foal that would be sound enough to race successfully.
Another issue: neither Curlin nor Zenyatta was precocious enough to race at 2. I would want to find a mate for Zenyatta that had that precocity, and I would prefer to find a mate for her that had quality speed, miler speed.
I’m not sure who I would select as a mate for Zenyatta, but I would rule Curlin out. Physically they just aren’t a good match.
Curlin with Rachel Alexandra would be a possibility, but my personal choice for her would be Tiznow, not Curlin. I believe that Tiznow would be a better match for her, and I don’t really like the idea of breeding a mare to an unproven stallion for her first foal. Curlin was a dynamite racehorse but he’s not a proven stallion. With a mare as good as Rachel Alexandra, every single foal she produces is going to be precious, so I would want to breed her to a stallion I knew was successful. Tiznow has proven himself and I think the bloodlines would work well together.

2009 Horse of the Year.?
So, who do you think it will be. Zenyatta or Rachel Alexandra (or someone else)? Please explain the reasons for your choice. Also, there are generally three names on the ballot. It’s a sure thing that Rachel and Zenyatta will be there. Who could possibly be the third nominee? I have a strong opinion about this one, but I’m not going to disclose it. I want to keep an open mind and here what everyone else has to say. Thanks!
Hi, Only two horses are in the running for HOY. We all know the races each of them has won, but we need to evaluate the significance of them, and what they represent. Rachel has won some important races, against the boys. But the truth is, they were young fields of unproven colts. Not to sell her short, she is a great filly, and I am a huge fan of hers. But the three organizations that decide who gets HOY will look for the horse who accomplished the greatest feats. Zen, beat the best horses in the world, not just three-year-olds. Winning the Classic is something no filly has ever done, and she did it with style, and grace. I think the powers that be will consider that heavily in her favor. The awards are coming up next month, so we do not have much longer to find out who wins this prestigious honor.
