Chad Brown

Primary Tracks: Belmont, Saratoga, Aqueduct, Gulfstream Park, Keeneland

Chad Brown first started working with horses of the standardbred breed at the Saratoga harness track. When he started his career working with thoroughbreds he worked under Hall of Famer Shug McGaughey. In the early 2000s he left McGaughey’s barn to work as an assistant to the legendary Bobby Frankel.

In 2007 he famously had to take over for Frankel in the Breeder’s Cup in which Frankel’s horse under Brown’s care won the Breeder’s Cup Distaff.

Brown started his own small operation in 2007 and won his first stakes race and his first Breeder’s cup only a year later. Since then his career has taken off earning him prominent runners for powerhouse ownership groups such as Juddmonte Farms, Klaravich Stables, The Ramseys, Shadwell, and Peter Brandt.

While Brown’s career has been overwhelmingly successful across the board, he is known as a turf specialist and has dominated the east coast turf divisions of racing for many years.

Accomplishments

Brown has won over 40 major stakes races across the country. Most notably he has won the Miss Grillo Stakes 8 separate times. Despite his lengthy list of awards he has won just 1 triple crown race which came in the 2017 Preakness with Cloud Computing.

Brown has earned the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Trainer on four separate occasions since 2016.
