Sackatoga Stable’s Tiz the Law has continued to stay on top of the Kentucky Derby standings for about 10 months. The Grade 1 winner is expected to be the favorite in Pool 6 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager (KDFW).

Pool 6 of the KDFW will take place during the same time as Pool 2 of the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager. An Oaks/Derby Future Double is part of the wagering menu along with Win and Exacta betting.

The wagers will open July 17 at noon (Eastern), and the KDFW will close on July 19 at 6 p.m. The Kentucky Oaks Future Wager will close 30 minutes later at 6:30 p.m.

COVID-19 Changes

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused both the $1.25 million Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) and $3 million Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) to be postponed to the first Friday and Saturday in September, respectively.

The Kentucky Oaks Future Wager will be the last chance to wager on the race before the Sept. 4 Kentucky Oaks, and the KDFW will have an additional pool on Aug. 7-9.

Tiz the Law

The veteran oddsmaker Mike Battaglia has installed Tiz the Law as the morning line favorite at 5-2 out of 24 betting interests in Pool 6 of the KDFW.

Tiz the Law is trained by Barclay Tagg and has been one of the top individual betting favorites in the first five pools of the KDFW.

The highest odds that Tiz the Law has been offered was 11-1 in Pool 1. In the last four pools, Tiz the Law closed at 8-1, 7-1, and 2-1.

He is expected to run in the $1 million Travers Stakes (G1) on Aug. 8 at Saratoga, being his last additional prep race before the Kentucky Derby.

Art Collector

Another one of the horses with betting interest is Bruce Lunsford’s Art Collector. The winner of the $600,000 Blue Grass (GII) is trained by Tommy Drury, and he was 20-1 in Pool 5 of the KDFW.

Art Collector is holding the No. 4 spot on the leaderboard with 100 points and has secured his spot in the Kentucky Derby.

Some of the other top betting interests in Pool 6 of the KDFW are C R K Stable’s $400,000 Santa Anita Derby (G1) winner Honor A.P. (5-1); Karl Watson, Michael Pegram, and Paul Weitman’s late Triple Crown nominee Uncle Chuck (10-1); and Spendthrift Farm, Starlight Racing and Madaket Stables’ Santa Anita Derby runner-up Authentic (10-1).
